A look back at the Summer School 2022

The 10th edition of the TULIP Summer School took place from 2 to 8 July 2022, look back at this edition after 2 years of absence

Some figures

For this year, the TULIP Summer School welcomed 24 participants in the Pyrenees;

4 postdocs, 15 PhD students & 5 masters students

These participants, coming from universities, institutes and laboratories from all over Europe, formed a cosmopolitan group with 14 different nationalities of the world.

The program

The mornings were dedicated to lectures, by our TULIP members and international guests, followed by lively question and answer sessions and enriching exchanges.
In the afternoons, the groups focused on their workshop projects to define a research question and how to answer it, which was not easy, especially on the last days (and evening) to complete their project.

To help them take a break from this relatively dense week, a visit to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre was organised, followed by a hike down the Pic for several hours, to stretch their legs, clear their minds and refocus on their workshop of course !

After this break, the groups finalised the presentation of their project and then presented it to the other groups, supervisors and guests, followed by challenging questions and discussion of their proposed project.

Acknowledgements

Many thanks to the TULIP speakers of the Summer School (and to those who helped us prepare the event):

Matthias Benoit (LIPME), Amaia Iribar (EDB), Staffan Jacob (SETE), Alexandra Magro (EDB), Hervé Philippe (SETE), Guillhem Reyt (LIPME) & Oswaldo Valdés López who also volunteered to mentor a group.

To the Domaine de Ramonjuan, who once again hosted the TULIP Summer School and who made it possible for the participants but also for the organisers to organise it perfectly!

To the participants who formed a very dynamic and committed group with an always positive and pleasant atmosphere.

We are sorry for two of the participants who were unable to attend the Summer School due to last-minute transport problems,
and for Matthieu Arlat, scientific co-leader of LabEx TULIP, who after months of preparation of the Summer School and without whom it could not have taken place, was unfortunately unable to attend for reasons of Covid.
