Biological interactions from genes to ecosystems

Summer School 2015

You are studying for a Master degree this year? You are a PhD student or a post-doc? Apply now for an original international Summer School in a stunning location... This summer school, combining plant biology and ecology, hosts up to 25 students...

As part of its training program, the Labex TULIP organizes its fourth Summer School in Integrative Ecology and Biology “Biological interactions from genes to ecosystems” (18-24 July 2015).

This Summer School in Integrative Ecology and Biology in english is part of the TULIP Labex (Laboratory of Excellence) training program of the  and will take place in the French Pyrenees in a grandiose scenery at the foot of the well-known “Pic du Midi”, a 2800m-high mountain with one of the last functional astronomy observatories in Europe. An outstanding experience in an immersive and intensive summer school in south western France.

The scientific programme includes plenary lectures and workshops, and covers genetic, molecular, physiological, evolutionary and ecological aspects of interactions between organisms and between organisms and their environments, in microbial, plant and animal biology. You will meet top international experts, as well as top Toulouse researchers working in these fields, and experience an innovative training using project-based learning.

Below the list of international researchers who have already confirmed their participation:

  • Richard P. Oliver (Curtin University of Technology - Australia): Genetic and chemistry working together to achieve sustainable fungal disease control
  • Marc-Andre Selosse (National museum - France): Genetic and chemistry working together to achieve sustainable fungal disease control
  • William Vickery (Quebec University at Montréal - Canada): Why do we teach?
  • Ulf Dieckmann (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis - Austria): Modeling complex adaptive systems at the interface of ecology and evolution
  • Asaph Aharoni (Weizmein Institute of Research, Israel): Unravelling plant metabolism through the integration of heterogeneous data from metabolomics, genetics and informatics

TULIP researchers who will stay with students the whole week and have already confirmed their participation:

  • Audran Corinne (Genomics and Biology of Fruit)
  • Danchin Etienne (Evolution and Biological Diversity)
  • Duneau David (Evolution and Biological Diversity)
  • Mazars Christian (Plant Sciences)
  • Raffaele  Sylvain (Plant-Microorganism Interactions)
  • Roby Dominique (Plant-Microorganism Interactions)
  • Roy Mélanie (Evolution and Biological Diversity),
  • Thebaud Christophe (Evolution and Biological Diversity)

Through plenary lectures and workshops, the program will cover many features of organism-organism interactions from both ecological and biological points of views. The programme will also include visit of unique place like the Experimental Ecology Center of CNRS in Moulis... At a glance :

  • Actively participate in elaborating research projects during workshops,
  • Meet experts from Toulouse and other internationally renowned laboratories,
  • Enjoy the inspiring Pyrenees location chosen for the Summer School.

Free accommodation is provided for all participants, limited in number to a total of 25 (undergraduate, graduate and post-docs)
