Benjamin Wiggins Seminar

25 April 2017

EDB seminar room

Benjamin Wiggins will be presenting "Implementing active learning in university biology courses" at the EDB laboratory (4R1 building ) on April 25th from 11:30 to 12:30.

Active learning includes a wide variety of teaching techniques that give students opportunities to deeply practice science skills. Some of these methods are intricate and complicated, but many others are simple: many educators find that high-level active learning is often manageable even with large classrooms, novice students, and/or complicated technical topics. In this session, we’ll explore some of the data linking the learning sciences to active learning. We’ll take an implementation lens towards applying active learning in your courses. Because the goal for most university science courses is to approach 45-55% active learning, a variety of these methods will be modeled in this presentation.
