PhD "Side Project" Allocations Call

Deadline, may 26. Objective: Allow PhD students from the two Doctoral Schools affiliated with TULIP-GS and based in one of the 6 TULIP Laboratories to fund a small autonomous "Side Project". The estimated amount of work required to complete the proposed project should correspond, at maximum, to the equivalent of 3 months of work full-time, although the project can span a longer period if performed part time.

The international Master "Functional Biology and Ecology" will open in September 2021!

The "TULIP-Graduate School" of Toulouse and Perpignan will open its international master's degree in September 2021. This Master will welcome students with a biology bachelor degree obtained either in France (university, school of engineer…) or in a foreign university. The training will be given in English, focusing on topics at the interface between ecology and functional biology.

Two articles shed light on the tomato's detection and response mechanisms to ethylene and ethanol

The detection of ethylene and ethanol is important for the germination, growth and development of the plant. Two articles published in the journals Plant Science and Horticulture Research increase our knowledge on this detection and the induced responses. These articles are the result of a collaboration between researchers from the Genomics and Biotechnology of Fruit unit (UMR 990 INRAE / ENSAT) and Brad Binder (University of Tennessee), a researcher whom they were able to invite thanks to a TULIP "Visiting Scientist" grant.

New breakthrough in understanding immune priming in Pacific oysters

In an article published in May 2020, several researchers from the Host-Pathogen-Environment Interactions unit (UMR 5244 UPVD, CNRS, Ifremer, UM), provide the first complete transcriptomic analysis of innate immune priming in Crassostrea gigas, an oyster of commercial interest. They reveal that the protection is based on regulation of the immune genes that control subsequent viral infection by conferring an enhanced immunity for 4 months.

FSBI 2020 award for Julien Cucherousset

This distinction from the Fisheries Society of the British Isles was awarded to Julien Cucherousset, researcher in the Evolution & Biological Diversity unit (UMR 5174 UPS / CNRS / IRD), for his research on the links between biodiversity (inter- and intra- specific) and functioning of aquatic ecosystems, including the effects of biological invasions and anthropogenic activities on food webs.
