OMOCO and T3EX1: two projects selected for the 2019-2020 Innovation call

Launched in October 2019, our call for Innovation projects aims to support valorisation or pre-maturation / pre-valorisation actions in collaboration with private partners. After examination on February 12, 2020 by our Innovation Committee, two submitted projects were selected.

Omoco : Assessment of winter cOver crops (Brassicaceae and/or Fabaceae) and biofuMigatiOn as a Control of sunflower brOomrape

The main objective of this project carried out in partnership between the LIPM and AGIR units and the MAS Seeds company (Haut-Mauco, France) is to assess the potential of cover crops to reduce sunflower broomrape damages, either through toxicity of glucosinolate products, nutrient enrichment or both of these ecological functions.

For the first time, this project will allow assessing the potential of two families (Brassicaceae and Fabaceae) grown in monoculture or mixture conditions to control the germination rate of Orobanche cumana as well as its ability to attach on sunflower roots.

Results from this project could help to propose new means of biological control against orobanche.

T3EX1 : Identification of disease resistance sources and mechanisms to Xanthomonas diseases in cauliflower, tomato and pepper

This project carried out in partnership between the LIPM unit and Vilmorin & Cie (Limagrain Vegetable Seed Division, LVS) aims at identifying resistance sources to Xanthomonas in important vegetable crops as cauliflower, cabbages, pepper and tomato. To this end, Xanthomonas effectors will be delivered individually by a custom Xanthomonas strain in a core collection of Brassica oleracea, Lycopersicum and Capsicum. Whenever available, the genetic determinism of the recognitions (if identified) will be studied. The results acquired within this one-year project will serve in LVS breeding programs to improve tolerance to black rot and bacterial leaf spot diseases.
