Success for the « FieldEpigen » Thematic School

From June 25th to 29th, the thematic school « FieldEpigen » was held in Perpignan, organized by the multidisciplinary Thematic Network of the CNRS "Epigenetics in Ecology and Evolution" (RTP 3E) with the support of the University of Perpignan Via Domitia and partnerships with Illumina and Diagenode. One month after the event, the results of these days of training in population epigenetics are very positive.

The Multidisciplinary Thematic Network "Epigenetics in Ecology and Evolution" (RTP 3E - involving many researchers and units of LabEx TULIP and whose management is provided by a member of the IHPE laboratory who will join TULIP very soon) organized from 25 to 29 June 2018 its second thematic school this year entitled "FieldEpigen". The school received 31 participants interested in population epigenetics, starting with sampling and experimental strategies, followed by experimental data acquisition, data analysis, and writing of publications. About two-thirds of the time was devoted to hands-on training: ATAC-Seq, a method that allows for simple characterization of chromatin structure in individuals in a population, and MOBILOME-Seq an innovative technique for directly identifying the parts genome that are mobilized after environmental stress (probably due to relaxation of their genetic control).

The online assessment survey confirmed the wide satisfaction of the participants and the responses encourage the newly-included holders within the LabEx TULIP to propose a new thematic school for the years to come. In addition, results produced at this school are already used to prepare scientific publications involving all participants.
