A new project supported by the TULIP 2017/2018 Innovation Call

As part of the LabEx actions to promote innovation, the "Innovation" call for projects aims at supporting valorization or pre-maturation / pre-valuation actions. After evaluation by the Innovation Committee, the project led by Fabienne Vailleau and Richard Berthomé in partnership with Syngenta was selected andwill be funded up to 50 k€.

The STARTER project is an ambitious project aiming at

  • the study of the structure and impact of the plant root and rhizosphere microbiota on the plant defense response to Ralstonia solanacearum in fluctuating climate environments
  • the use of this trait in Genome Wide Association (GWA) studies to identify innovative and sustainable sources of resistance

As a follow-up of the BURNED project previously supported by TULIP, the project leaders will develop a Genome Wide Association approach based on phenotyping of a panel of 200 wild type accessions of Solanum pimpinellifolium infected in field conditions in Thailand by a local R. solanacearum strain. Phenotyping will start in 2019 and will be performed during three years at two seasons to mimic a temperature elevation. STARTER will take advantage of the unique opportunity to collaborate with SYNGENTA to include microbiotic diversity analysis in the study of tomato / Ralstonia / climate interactions.
