Two selected projects for the 2015 AO Innovation first call !

As we announced in the previous issue, TULIP launched last November a call for projects to support actions of transfer or pré-maturation by members of TULIP in conjunction with partners from our network. After evaluation the Innovation Committee selected two projects to be founded.

MetAqua Project : towards a simulation the aquacultural populations dynamics

LOGOTYPE TerrOïko 5x4 cm

This project is based on the current urge for 1) the development of management tools for fresh water ecosystem connectivity and the 2) necessity to extrapolate from populations dynamics to simulate and compare the impact of various management methods in relation to connectivity. The main investigators of this project carried out by Simon Blanchet will synergize their skills in population genetics and the ecology of aquatic environments in adapting the SimOïko model (an already existing simulation platform developed by the TerrOïko company) to simulate aquatic species dynamics in various environments. This project will be co-funded by Tulip and the TerrOïko company.

FlyPeps Project : developing biocontrol tools

Logomicropeptechnologies

Jean-Philippe Combier and Serge Plaza will use bioinformatics to search for Drosophila full-length miRNAs, and then to identify putative miPEPs.

Based on bibliographic and experimental approaches, they will next seek for miPEPs able to block the life cycle/development of Drosophila. From these results, the project partners anticipate that the modulation of most miRNA expression will exert detrimental effects on development, life cycle, and fertility of Drosophila. They will synthesize peptides and feed Drosophila larvae and/or adults with them and check for phenotypical defects. They also plan to generate transgenic flies expressing these miPEPs. The project will be co-founded by TULIP and by the Micro PEP technologies company.
