Two new coordinators for TULIP

Starting in January 1st 2020, Fabrice Roux and Monique Gardes will be the coordinators of the TULIP 2020-2025 LabEx project. The French National Agency of Research extended the TULIP LabEx duration following an evaluation by an international jury during the last quarter of 2018. We take this opportunity before the beginning of their mandate to let them express their vision for the next mandate in few words.

« We are proud and honored to accept the challenge passed on by Dominique and Etienne, who clearly succeeded in building and consolidating the TULIP Labex project through their constant commitment to our research community over the past ten years.

The extension of the TULIP LabEx is in line with this, with the conservation of the majority of the actions developed so far - Junior and Senior Packages, Key Projects, New Frontiers, Innovation, InterLabEx, Summer School, Visiting Scientists & Prestige seminars. New actions are under discussion and some of them should be put into action during the year 2020.

During this mandate, we would also like to accentuate the international reputation of the LabEx, in particular by presenting TULIP’s philosophy at international conferences like the one recently organized in Shanghai by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Max Planck Institute in November 2019 (10th Exploratory Round Table Conference on Ecological Environment). We take this opportunity to thank the current and past members of the International Scientific Board who supported TULIP with their advice, external view and evaluations on the projects entrusted to them.

A new extension of TULIP is starting with the recent funding of the TULIP-GSR University School of Research, which will allow the already existing educational aspect to gain more importance. In particular, an International Master will be created at the interface between Ecology and Functional Biology. TULIP-GSR will strengthen the structuration of research and teaching in Occitania in the field of biology of biotic interactions and adaptation of living organisms to their natural environment. In close collaboration with the LabEx, there is no doubt that this project will promote the attractiveness of international students to Toulouse and Perpignan Universities.

Finally, we take this opportunity to invite you to our 2020 annual meeting, which will take place on May 28th and 29th. These two days of scientific exchanges, open to the whole community, will take place at the Villa Duflot in Perpignan. It represents a unique opportunity to know our colleagues from Perpignan better.
